FYI,
We had a member of our Local working at the Women’s Prison on Homer-Watson road in Kitchener, who was subjected to random testing without his knowledge. After he had registered his tool inventory, the guard asked to see his driver’s licence for verification of his Bell Canada ID. While his wallet was out the guard proceeded to swab the wallet and put it under a scanner. Our member asked what this was for as the scan was being conducted and was told that they are checking for traces of illegal drugs and if any are present he would not be permitted access. If you are asked by any customer to give information or subject to testing, you have the right to refuse and leave the job. Just make sure you notify your manager and your Local Union Steward of the situation. Also never sign anything, because if it is not in our Collective Agreement the Union has not agreed to it (ie; Bell's Busness Code of Conduct, Yearly Personal Reviews, any waivers or release forms, etc).
Thanks,
Tyson Siddall
